Astragalus ( Astragalus membranaceus) is one of the most popular rejuvenating and immune boosting herbs used today. It contains antioxidants, and has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties that stimulate the immune system.
Traditionally the root of this plant is used to bolster the immune system and studies show that it helps prevent contracting the common cold. It’s warm, sweet energy strengthens many body systems. Astragalus is used to increase energy, build resistance to disease, balance the energy of all the internal organs, neutralize fevers and improve digestion.
It is useful for treating weakness or debility as well and may be taken to help overcome deep immune deficiencies. Since it can help anyone to rebuild and rejuvenate, it is especially beneficial for those recovering from an illness and those who have a compromised immune system. It is also a valuable diuretic. Taken on somewhat of a regular basis, especially during the fall and winter months, astragalus may help one to stay healthier and more energized.
Now is the time to incorporate it into your routine. It is easy to add to teas or broths or you can take it in our ever popular Echinacea Astragalus Immune Support tincture throughout the cold and flu season, especially if you tend to catch everything that is going around. Just add a few drops to water 2-3 times a day.
Another way I use astragalus is to add the whole dried roots to soups. If you don’ want to make a soup, you can also make a wonderful tea from astragalus by boiling pieces of the root in water.
At the Journey Health Shop we carry the sliced dried root, tincture and tea form. Anyway you take it though this is a wonderful herb with many benefits that almost anyone can start using today!
